Lola and Doc Delaney have been denying their deep disappointments with each other and with themselves. Doc is assessing all he gave up by marrying a pregnant Lola years before. Their precarious situation is upset further when their boarder, an attractive young woman, makes them confront their unfulfilled dreams and unattainable desires.
