This presentation of Aesthetic Realism will feature a dramatic reading of poet and critic Eli Siegel’s moving lecture on Hawthorne’s Blithedale Romance, in which Mr. Siegel explained: “Hawthorne had the question that everyone has: ‘I want to be by myself, and I want to be where others are–how can I manage this? Hawthorne’s books are beautiful stories about hiding. He could see this rhythm of hiding and showing, fright and confidence that is in everyone, and show it clearly, and make beauty out of it.”

Also, a reenactment of an Aesthetic Realism Lesson in which Eli Siegel asked: “If you are feeling miserable and birds are chirping could you get annoyed?”

And there will be poet Karen Van Outryve on “Freedom Is a Musical Oneness of Opposites; or, John Philip Sousa’s ‘Stars & Stripes Forever.’”
