An Insider’s View of Independent Publishing

As part of the Labor, Literature and Landmarks Lecture Series. Spring 2014, the next literature lecture will feature cutting-edge publisher Pegasus Books who will give an insider’s view of independent publishing on Thursday, June 12th 2014 at the General Society Library at 20 West 44th Street. The lecture starts at 6:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.

Pegasus Books, one of the fastest-growing independent publishing companies in the country, is dedicated to the aim of independent publishing that stimulates both the intellect and the imagination. During this panel discussion, Pegasus Books’ Associate Publisher Jessica Case and Marketing Director and Senior Editor Iris Blasi will provide an insider’s perspective on independent publishing. They will discuss the company’s history, its philosophy, its many successful and critically acclaimed books, its dynamic digital development and the realities of being an independent publisher in 2014.

Joining the discussion will be two Pegasus authors: Mystery writer Parnell Hall, who has published several books with Pegasus Books including Hitman, Caper and Stakeout, and Bill Morris, a staff writer at The Millions and author of the forthcoming Motor City Burning. Both writers will provide an overview of their path to being published and read extracts from their books.

New York-based Pegasus Books was founded in 2006 by Publisher Claiborne Hancock. Pegasus strives to reach readers nationwide who share its conviction that good literature is essential to the health of our cultural life. In a short time, the company established itself, and, even in a challenging economic market, Pegasus has been able to thrive, yielding a 128% increase print and book sales since 2011 and publishing a diverse catalog of works including history, philosophy, biography and memoir, literary fiction, and noir titles.
