The New Yorker Festival | Crazy Funny: Mental Health and TV Comedy

Maria Bamford is a comedian known for her humorous commentary on family, identity, and mental health. She currently stars in the Netflix comedy series “Lady Dynamite” and appears on several shows, including the Netflix animated comedy series “BoJack Horseman” and ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat.” In 2013, she was named one of Rolling Stones “50 Funniest People Now,” and in 2014 she received an American Comedy Award for Best Club Comic.

Raphael Bob-Waksberg is a comedian, writer, and the creator of the Netflix comedy series “BoJack Horseman,” which won this year’s Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Animation Series. He was also a co-writer for the 2013 film “The Exquisite Corpse Project.”

Stephen Falk is a writer, producer, and the creator of the show “You’re the Worst,” formerly for FX and now for FXX. Previously, he was a co-executive producer and writer for Season 2 of the Netflix show “Orange Is the New Black” and a co-executive producer for the Showtime show “Weeds.”

Jenji Kohan is a writer, producer, and the creator of the award-winning series “Weeds,” on Showtime, and “Orange Is the New Black,” on Netflix. She has received ten Emmy nominations. She is currently in production on another Netflix series, “G.L.O.W.,” about an all-female pro-wrestling league in the nineteen-eighties.

Emily Nussbaum is the television critic for The New Yorker. In 2016, she won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism. Prior to joining The New Yorker, Nussbaum worked for seven years as an editor and writer at New York magazine.
