Become a Big Apple Greeter to Show Visitors Hidden Gems of NYC

New York City is constantly changing, and every New Yorker knows something unique about their own neighborhood that’s typically not found in traditional guide book. Share your knowledge by volunteering with Big Apple Greeter.

Founded in 1992, Big Apple Greeter has since grown to 300 volunteer Greeters who show visitors that New York City has to offer to more than 120,000 people. The non-profit matches volunteers with various groups of visitors to showcase the diversity of the city for free.

Greeters offer a two- to four-hour personalized tour for groups of up to six people. On a tour, visitors can expect:

• to see up close where New Yorkers live, work and raise their families.

• personal recommendations of favorite hotspots, from the lesser-known sights, great mom-and-pop shops and fun local restaurants that define each neighborhood.

• a highlight of New York’s rich and remarkable cultural and ethnic diversity.

• unscripted tours and firsthand accounts of the neighborhood as told by Greeters, volunteer tour guides who live and work in the area.

The New Yorkers who serve as Greeters are all volunteers and come from various backgrounds. They all share pride in their neighborhoods, a love of their hometown and a desire to pass on to others their enthusiasm for the city onto others.
