Families who migrate into the U.S. often face steep and complex obstacles, not the least of which is the lack of proper legal representation when faced with deportation. In 2015, the New York City Council announced the Unaccompanied Minors Initiative—a groundbreaking public-private partnership between the Council, Robin Hood Foundation, and the New York Community Trust to ensure that unaccompanied minors who make their way to New York City receive much-needed help from qualified attorneys. Hear from those working on this issue and those directly affected as they discuss what’s working, what isn’t, and what more needs to be done.
