Hiroshi Sugimoto: Theatres

The allure of the cinema, the place where people gather to get away from the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives, to escape into another world. It’s an almost mystical location made more captivating with detailed architecture. A perfect place to capture in a photograph as Hiroshi Sugimoto has done in his series Theatres. For this project, he opens the camera shutter and exposes a roll of film for the duration of the movie, letting the screen be the only source of light. The result is something beautiful.

Hiroshi will be joined in conversation with Darius Himes, International Head of Photographs for Christie’s and co-author of Publish Your Photography Book.

The conversation will be followed by a signing of Sugimoto’s book Theatres.  In addition to Theatres, Sugimoto will sign one back list title per customer (Damiani-published Dioramas or Seascapes only).
