Skirball Talks: For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Politics

Donna BrazileYolanda CarawayLeah Daughtry, and Minyon Moore are four of the most influential African American women in the United States. Together, they call themselves the Colored Girls. As political strategists, organizers, CEOs, and more, they have made history and shaped politics. Yet their story, like the stories of so many African American women in politics, is largely absent from the mainstream. In their new book, FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED POLITICS, written with Veronica Chambers, these four trailblazers share their personal journeys, marked by incredible successes and milestones, and offer a roadmap for other women of color with political ambitions.

At this event, they will sit down with Washington Post opinion writer Jonathan Capehart for a special live taping of his podcast, “Cape Up with Jonathan Capehart.” They’ll discuss life in public service, the importance of mentorship, the power of Black sisterhood, and their advice for a new generation of political activists and leaders.

Co-sponsored by the John Brademas Center of New York University.

Held weekly every Monday at 6:30pm during the academic terms,  Skirball Talks hosts visionaries from the worlds of politics, the arts, sciences, academia, and more. This event is free and open to the public. RSVPs will open on Nov 5, 2018.
