Writer Adam Higginbotham joins The National Arts Club to present his book Midnight at Chernobyl.
Early in the morning of April 26, 1986, Reactor Number Four of the Chernobyl Atomic Energy Station exploded, triggering one of the twentieth century’s greatest disasters. In the thirty years since then, Chernobyl has become lodged in the collective nightmares of the world. But the real story behind this devastating nuclear accident, clouded from the beginning by secrecy, propaganda, and misinformation, has long remained in dispute.
Midnight at Chernobyl, researched and written by veteran journalist Higginbotham, is the definitive story of Chernobyl, an “account that reads almost like the script for a movie.” (The Wall Street Journal).
Higginbotham writes for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Wired, GQ, and Smithsonian. Interviewer Glenn Raucher is the host of the PageTurners readings series, formerly staged at the Half King Bar.
