Join Ronnit Vasserman to view vibrant portraits of Hollywood superstars by painter Andy Warhol, such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, and Judy Garland, as well as entertainers like Debbie Harry, Dolly Parton, and Liza Minnelli. Andy was also fascinated by powerful women who wielded power on an international scale, such as Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir.
This lecture will also include figures outside the limelight such as a 1974 portrait of Warhol’s then-deceased mother, Julia Warhola. At first glance, the factory-made silk screen portraits seem impersonal and detached. Yet, upon extended viewing, they convey portraits where the woman is allowed to be who she is. Moreover, Andy could portray women from the eye of a man without sexualizing the image.
