Dr. Michael Matsas discusses his book, The Illusion of Safety, which explores the little-known history of the Holocaust in Greece with the National Arts Club audience.
When he was 13 years old, Matsas and his immediate family hid in the partisan-controlled free Greek mountains and survived. Tragically, 87% of the Greek Jewish community was destroyed.
Marcia Ikonomopoulos, Museum Director of the Kehila Kedosha Janina Synagogue & Museum and world-expert in Greek Jewry, interviews Dr. Matsas as he recounts what happened in Greece during WWII. His research includes personal memoirs of survivors and Greek resistance fighters as well as official government wartime reports.
Please note: This event will be held virtually. Details for accessing the program will be sent upon registration.
