Otto Preminger: The Man Who Would Be King

In the biography Otto Preminger: The Man Who Would Be King, author Foster Hirsch explores the life and work of the acclaimed Austro-Hungarian-born theatre and film director.

Preminger first gained attention for film noir mysteries such as Laura (1944), and later directed high-profile adaptations of popular novels and stage works. Several of these later films pushed the boundaries of censorship by dealing with themes which were then taboo in Hollywood, including Anatomy of a Murder (1959) which dealt with the subject of rape.

This program is presented by the National Arts Club.
