A Night with Phantasmagoria

Phantasmagoria, created by author/performer Leland Pitts-Gonzalez, is an ongoing series of events with a central, unfolding narrative. He’ll be joined by several collaborators, including actor Michael Bakkensen and dancer Belinda He.

Leland Pitts-Gonzalez earned an MFA in Writing from Columbia University on a merit fellowship. He has published fiction in many literary journals including Open City, Fence, and Dark Sky Magazine. He was awarded fiscal sponsorship from the New York Foundation for the Arts to develop a multidisciplinary project, Phantasmagoria: The Language and Technology of Suffering. The Blood Poetry is his first novel. Michael Bakkensen studied English and Theater at Yale University. He subsequently earned an MFA in Theater from the University of California, San Diego, one of the top programs in the country. He is represented by the Gage Group and has acted in various Broadway plays, including The Man Who Came to Dinner with Nathan Lane. He has worked extensively in top regional theaters, and has appeared in several well-known television programs. He lives in Harlem.

Belinda He graduated with an MFA in Dance from Sarah Lawrence. She founded and as been the Artistic Director of SINecdoche Dance. She is also on faculty at Brooklyn Arts Exchange (BAX) and has taught at Harlem School of the Arts. She lives in Brooklyn.

An emerging fiction writer from Writer’s Bloq will also be reading. Writer’s Bloq is a Literary Collective for writers to collaborate with peers and share their work with trusted readers, gaining exposure for their writing and earning opportunities for publication. Members of the WB collective also have the opportunity to participate in The Collective Presse, which they described as having “reinvented the publishing process to offer the first digital and democratic imprint.”
