Artist Event: Jack Flam, Phyllis Tuchman and Yasmil Raymond

Discuss Robert Smithson in New Jersey at Montclair Art Museum, NJ with panelists Jack Flam, art and art history professor; Phyllis Tuchman, curator at Dia Art Foundation; and Yasmil Raymond, critic and curator of Robert Smithson in New Jersey.

Jack Flam, president of the Dedalus Foundation, has written numerous books and articles on 19th and 20th century art, including Matisse: The Man and His Art and Matisse and Picasso: The Story of their Rivalry and Friendship. Flam is also the editor of The Collected Writings of Robert Smithson.

Yasmil Raymond has curated exhibitions and projects with artists Jean-Luc Moulèe, Robert Whitman, and others. Her current work is with Philippe Vergne, the retrospective Carl Andre: Sculpture as Place, 1958-2010, which will open 2014 at Dia: Beacon.

Phyllis Tuchman is the curator of Robert Smithson, the topic of the discussion, and writes: “it is now clearer than ever how intertwined his sculptures, drawings, photographs, and films are with the sites that inspired them as well as his writings that serve as their subtext. Robert Smithson died 40 years ago.”
