Beyond Money: How Development Is Delivering Social Value

New York and London explore the relationship between private investment and public good.

The metric used to measure the value of development is often distilled down to money, yet more and more developers are starting to assess their value in a different way—addressing the “triple bottom line” of environmental, social and economic sustainability.

Addressing a development’s social and environmental impact requires a more nuanced assessment of value and “highest and best use.” How do we account for less tangible impacts of private development, such as the effect on creativity, social cohesion, health and well-being? How can good design help facilitate or mediate these impacts and drive the decision-making process?

London and New York will come together around these pressing questions, sharing examples and discussing current challenges. Special to this event, Van Alen’s International Council—a group of leading design professionals from around the world—will participate as they meet in New York to explore the relationship between private investment and public good, which began in London earlier in the year.

The live video seminar, taking place simultaneously in both cities, will begin promptly at 9am in New York, with breakfast from 8:30am.
