The Book of Job: An Original Dance Oratorio Performance

The Grammy-nominated Choir of Trinity Wall Street joins the Trinity Movement Choir in performing The Book of Job, a dance oratorio dramatizing the Biblical Job’s challenge to God at Trinity Church on Wednesday, April 06th at 7 P.M. An introduction to the work will be given at 6:45 P.M.

Under the direction of Julian Wachner, the highly disciplined classical choir performs the powerful questions raised by Job and explores the libretto taken from the King James Bible. The Trinity Movement Choir, with movement based on intense, dreamlike aspect of Butoh, will also enact the story of Job.

The Choir of Trinity Wall Street has made its name in performance worldwide that has generated reviews calling it “a choir from heaven” (The Times, London), and acknowledging that “there was genius here and no mistaking it” (Boston Globe). The Trinity Movement Choir performs structured improvisation, drawing heavily from the dreamlike intensity of Butoh and the work of Rudolf Laban, friend of Carl Jung and Josef Pilates. Using living masks and costumes based on the stained glass of Trinity Church, the group has received enthusiastic praise in the U.S. and Canada, most recently at the Chautauqua Institution and the 2015 international festival of the Sacred Dance Guild.
