Charles Simic with Novelist Tea Obreht

Join the Strand for a reading by former Poet Laureate and Pulitzer Prize winning poet Charles Simic, followed by a discussion with Simic and Tea Obreht, author of The Tiger’s Wife. Both Slavs, these two will discuss their backgrounds, their influences and Simic’s work.

Charles Simic has won nearly every prize there is to win from the Pulitzer to the MacArthur. He is the author of thirty-four volumes of poetry, as well as fourteen collections of translations. He’s also written eight books of prose that include Dime-Store Alchemy: The Art of Joseph Cornell and more recently, The Renegade.

Tea Obreht’s first novel A Tiger’s Wife garnered much acclaim and attention, winning her the coveted Orange Prize. She was the youngest novelist to date to win the award. Her work has appeared in the New YorkerHarper’sThe New York Times, and The Guardian.
