Climate Change Reading Group

Want to become more informed and engaged on issues of climate change?

The New York Public Library, together with Melville House, is hosting a monthly series for the New York City community to read the Climate Report, published in 2018 by the U.S. Global Change Research Program, and discuss its findings and implications.

This month, we turn to city infrastructure, transportation, and their environmental consequences.  We will be joined by representatives from New York Communities for Change, whose work emphasizes renewable energy and environmental justice by critically examining New York’s energy consumption and fostering legislative change.

After participating in a lively discussion, attendees can view selections from the records of the NYPIRG Straphangers Campaign, representing four decades of advocacy for the rights and interests of New York City’s public transit riders.  By situating the Library’s archival collections within the current environmental moment, we can consider how present-day activism is tied to a rich historical context.
