Conversation: Artists on the Refugee Crisis

Artists Ginane Makki Bacho, Issam Kourbaj, and Mohamad Hafez discuss the special exhibition Syria, Then and Now: Stories from Refugees a Century Apart, where their works are on view alongside medieval ceramics from our collection. These three artists of Syrian and Lebanese descent—based in Beirut; Cambridge, U.K.; and New Haven, CT, respectively—explore both the violence and displacement of the refugee crisis and the resilience of diasporic communities. Then, Refugees International hosts a Q&A on the intersections of art and the refugee crisis with the artists and Ayşin Yoltar-Yıldırım, Hagop Kevorkian Associate Curator of Islamic Art. Presented in conjunction with the Arab Art & Education Initiative.
