Dance Parade

The 12th annual Dance Parade will take place Saturday May 19th, starting at 1 PM at Broadway & 21st Street.  Approximately 10,000 dancers, student to professional, young and old, will appear in 80 different styles of dance, with accompanying music and colorful costumes.   The dancers will boogie their way down Broadway, through Union Square and University Place, east of 8th Street/St. Marks, ending at approximately 3 pm in Tompkins Square Park.  Five stages will be set up for performances, social dancing, and free dance classes.   It’s a joyous celebration of dance in all its forms.   Grand Marshals this year are Camille A. Brown, Mickela “Bare Feet” Mallozzi, WBLS DJ Doc Martin, and Brooklyn City Council Member Rafael Espinal.  And, as always, there will be the Dance Parade police, checking to  see that everyone is in a dancing mood and handing out tickets for “non-moving violations.”
