Danse Macabre

There is a delicate dance a creative artist enters into with an all-powerful tyrant in order to survive in a world of chaos and fear. In the play Danse Macabre, the artist is Soviet filmmaker Sergei Eisenstein. The tyrant, Joseph Stalin. Faced with a devil’s pact to glorify Stalin’s favorite tsar, Ivan the Terrible, Eisenstein struggles with the decision of what is more important: making the film he wants or saving his career and very life.

Excerpts from the 1944 film, Ivan the Terrible, will be presented within the performance. In addition to winning the Best Script Award at the International Short Play Festival in Sydney, Australia, Otfinoski’s plays have been produced in Connecticut at the Warner Theatre and at the Quick Center for the Performing Arts at Fairfield University.

Directed by Mark Graham, whose NAC direction includes The Lives of Shakespeare Trilogy and Otfinoski’s Mortal Friends.
