Conservator Mark Roussel will examine the transformative impact of advancements in metalworking on sculpture techniques. He provides an analysis of how David Smith combined steel and welding, traditionally considered manufacturing technologies, with the principles of Cubism to forge a distinctive American sculptural idiom.
