Conceived by exhibition curator Jeffrey Weiss, this dynamic series of paired talks positions On Kawara within an interdisciplinary world context. Diverse engagements with the artist’s work include themes of everyday life, globalism, politics, language, travel and pictorial abstraction.

Drawing upon themes of tourism, migration, displacement and exile, the global artist Emily Jacir and internationally renowned cultural historian Nikos Papastergiadis shed light upon the strategic function of travel, the concept of the studio as an unfixed site, and personal, social and political identity, all found in Kawara’s work.
