Eye on Dance: An Irreplaceable National Dance Treasure

The National Arts Club presents a screening of clips from Eye On Dance, which has been designated “an irreplaceable national dance treasure.”

The series that aired on PBS from 1981 to 2004 celebrated dance’s irreverence, complexity, and diversity through lively interview and performance excerpts. Dance icons and unrecognized heroes populate the screen including modern dancers Alvin Ailey and Katherine Dunham; tap dancers Jimmy Slyde and LaVaughn Robinson; lindy hoppers Frankie Manning and Sugar Sullivan; ballet dancers VIolette Verdy, Edward Villella and Kevin McKenzie; and experimentalists Yvonne Rainer and William Forsythe, among many others.

Celia Ipiotis, creator/producer/host of the program narrates and answers questions.
