Families & Folk Art: Quilts as Portraits

Attend Quilts as Portraits with the kids and create a one-of-a-kind artwork.

In the galleries, families will focus on the idea of portraits in two ways: the abstract—how quilts can tell a family story through carefully chosen materials—and also through concrete examples of portrait quilts featuring the friends and community of alt_quilts artist Luke Haynes.

In the art studio, families will create their own quilt-inspired portraits from patterned paper, drawings, and photo reproductions of pop culture icons!

To further personalize this project, bring in family photos (or copies of photos) to work from.

Families and Folk Art is offered the first Saturday of every month from 1 to 2 p.m. The program introduces children ages 4-12 and their accompanying adults to folk art through interactive and discussion-based tours in the galleries followed by hands-on art-making activities inspired by objects in the museum.
