“First Fridays” Art & Film Program: Film Screening—Routes: The Spiritual Odyssey of Chinese American Artists

The Noguchi Museum’s “First Fridays” series of special evening hours (5–8 pm), free admission, art, and film continues on October 4, with a screening of two episodes of the twelve part documentary film Routes: The Spiritual Odyssey of Chinese American Artists (2012). Featuring interviews with native Chinese artists Zhang Hongtu and Cui Fei, both currently living in New York, the film takes the audience through each artist’s working process and illustrates the challenges they face in America. Additional selections from the film will be shown as part of the Museum’s “First Fridays” program in December.

Routes has been selected to coincide with Isamu Noguchi and Qi Baishi: Beijing 1930, a major exhibition exploring the creative exchange between Noguchi and the eminent Chinese ink painter Qi Baishi, on view at the Museum from September 25, 2013 through January 26, 2014.

“First Fridays” also feature “Center of Attention”—a guided discussion of a single work of art on view—and will focus on Isamu Noguchi’s Time Thinking (Basalt on Japanese pine, 1968), beginning at 6 pm. A cash bar with wine and beer begins at 5:30 pm, and the film screening begins at 7 pm.
