Forest Whitaker on His New Film ‘Black Nativity’

Catch a preview screening of Forest Whitaker’s new film Black Nativity, part of the 92Y “Reel Pieces,” film series moderated by Annette Insdorf.

whitaker-insdorfBefore a preview screening of Black Nativity, Whitaker will discuss the film and his wide-ranging career with professor Insdorf. Before and after winning the Academy Award for Best Actor in The Last King of Scotland, Whitaker has done superb work, notably in Lee Daniels’s The Butler this year, and previously in The Crying Game, Bird (Cannes Film Festival Best Actor Award, 1988), Platoon and The Color of Money. He is also the director of Waiting to Exhale and Hope Floats.

Black Nativity is a contemporary musical drama in which he stars as a reverend in Harlem. Angela Bassett and Jennifer Hudson also star in the film, which was adapted by Kasi Lemmons from a play by Langston Hughes. The preview will follow the onstage interview.
