Thousands of people have been fleeing their war-torn countries, searching for safety, for a place to protect their families, for a home. They will search for escape by any means necessary, often risking their own lives to find it. Few people outside of the mass of refugees can truly understand their flight, their fear, their disregard of danger; however, Patrick Kingsley, the Guardian’s first-ever migration correspondent, chose to try and understand those fleeing. Patrick followed several groups of people running from the destruction of their homelands as they ventured across unsafe waters and weather conditions, joining them in their struggle to better understand their world. He has written their stories, capturing their tragedy in the written word, and is here to share them with us.

Joining Patrick in conversation is Manal Kahi, founder of Eat Offbeat – a catering company that delivers authentic ethnic meals that are conceived, prepared and delivered by refugees resettled in NYC.
