ICP Photobook Club: Joe Timmerman—“Two Moons” (January 2024)

Explore ICP’s library during the ICP Photobook Club, a community meet-up for book enthusiasts, photographers, and lovers of printed images. Bring your favorite photobook, zine, or other image focused publication to share while exploring monthly selections from the ICP stacks during this community-building event.

During January’s Photobook Club, photographer Joe Timmerman and the community organization Worlds Through Minds are proud to present the new zine “Two Moons.” A long term project by Joe Timmerman & produced by Macy Castañeda Lee, the zine is an intimate dive into mental health stories and narratives.

“Two Moons is a collaborative documentary photography project sharing people’s personal experiences with mental health. By asking each collaborator to photograph their own lives and write in a journal, each internal perspective blends together in double exposures with portraits that walk through more than just an outside perspective. As a photographer and journalist, collaboration is an extremely important part of the storytelling process for me. While planning for and working on this project over the last few years, I wanted to build deep connections with the collaborators due to the sensitive nature of mental health. In turn, I hope that people looking at this project feel a sense of connection or relate to the struggle and growth of the wonderful people I worked with.”

A discussion about the zine will be led by Joe Timmerman and Macy Castañeda Lee and library selections from both photographers will be on view for browsing during the event.

Worlds Through Minds is a global organization of photographers supporting events and causes that is able to uplift mental health & culture issues. Worlds Through Minds started as a gallery in Northern California and is now a growing community of creatives in NYC.
