Glory Edim, founder of Well-Read Black Girl, an online platform and book club dedicated to celebrating the works of Black women authors and creating a supportive online community, has reached half a million readers and promoted diverse voices in literature and inspired conversations around societal issues, from banned books to gender equality to reproductive rights. But Glory’s own love of books was her outlet to navigate traumatic changes and losses, escape into safe spaces, and to find community. Her new memoir, Gather Me, is an ode to the power reading has had on her life and to books’ ability to help us understand ourselves. Edim speaks with Aminatou Sow, New York Times best-selling writer and host of the acclaimed podcast Call Your Girlfriend, about her memoir of family, community, resilience, and how representation in literature can gather the disparate parts that make us who we are and assemble them into a portrait of discovery.
