@MACAULAY Author Series: Paul Goldberger on Frank Gehry

architecture talks nycThe @MACAULAY AUTHOR SERIES welcomes on November 4, 2015, Pulitzer Prize-winning architecture critic Paul Goldberger and his new book Building Art: The Life and Work of Frank Gehry, considered one of the world’s greatest living architects. Building Art is the first full-fledged critical biography of Gehry and the culmination of a decades-long relationship between Goldberger and the celebrated architect. It presents and evaluates the work of Gehry’s major buildings: from his family’s radical residence of 1978 to the Guggenheim Bilbao in Spain, with which Gehry almost single-handedly transformed contemporary architecture. The book discusses how Gehry thinks about and employs technology to change not just the way a building can look, but the way architecture itself is practiced. Building Art also studies Gehry’s personal life, including the influence of his immigrant grandparents, his two marriages and his close relationships, including with his longtime therapist. Joining Goldberger to discuss his book following his reading will be Wall Street Journal architecture columnist and author Julie Iovine.

The November 4th event, which is free and open to the public, begins at 7PM at CUNY’s Macaulay Honors College, 35 West 67th Street (between Central Park West and Columbus). The event will include a book signing and informal reception. Books will be available for purchase; reservations are advised.
