New York Recital Debut: Sampo Haapamäki

Finnish composer Sampo Haapamäki makes his New York recital debut with a concert of works presenting his chamber music, including Logo (2013) for violin and live electronics; Connection (2007) for string quartet; Haljennut (2004) for vocalist and string trio; Highway (2002) for flute and piano; Wide (2001) for clarinet, piano, violin, viola, and cello; and Avenue (2000) for alto saxophone and piano.

The following musicians will perform in this concert: Anna Urrey, flute; Paolo Marchettini, clarinet; Andrew Steinberg, alto saxophone; Kalle Toivio, piano and vocalist; Hayne Kim, violin; Julie Castor, violin; Janice LaMarre, viola; Sara Cortinas, cello; and David Adamcyk, sound engineer.

About Sampo Haapamäki
Sampo Haapamäki (b. 1979, Finland) holds a Masters in Music from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki and obtained his Doctor of Musical Arts from Columbia University in 2012. He took part in an annual composition and music technology course at Ircam – Centre Pompidou in Paris. Haapamäki composes chamber music, vocal music, electronic music, concertos, and orchestral music. He was the Tapiola Sinfonietta’s Composer-in-Residence for the 2011-12 season.

An international prize-winning composer, Haapamäki has received numerous awards, including the Gaudeamus International Composers Award 2004 in Amsterdam, the International Society of Contemporary Music – Young Composer Award 2005 in Zagreb, and the Teosto Prize 2006 in Helsinki.
