The Path Forward: Our Age of Anxiety

A conversation on civics and politics with New Yorker staff writer George Packer and National Review executive editor Reihan Salam, moderated by the President of The New York Public Library, Anthony Marx. These voices from different backgrounds and views will come together for a frank and challenging discussion on some of our most complicated sociopolitical questions.

Packer and Salam will explore with Marx our age of anxiety. As the characters do in W. H. Auden’s poem of the same name, many Americans today seem to be struggling to understand their place in a country and a world that is changing too fast. How that sense of alienation has impacted world events and will continue to impact political life remain up for debate. In what ways do our fears divide (or unite) us? And, more importantly, how are they defining us?
