The Postmodern Phenomenon: From Failure to Fashion-Forward

Postmodernism, the most controversial and least understood style of the 20th century, has been making news with resurgences of vintage designs and the introduction of eye-catching new ones inspired by their lively color and iconoclastic forms of the 1980s originals. In this dynamic and thought-provoking presentation, design historian and author Judith Gura will discuss the history, designers, and iconic designs of the Postmodern movement, and the reasons behind its current and well-deserved revival. The lecture will be followed by a conversation, moderated by creative director of Metropolis, Paul Makovsky.

Postmodern Design Complete: Design, Furniture, Graphics, Architecture, Interiors was recently selected by the New York Times as one of 2017’s best Art Books, it will also be available for purchase after the lecture.
