From Pulps to Picture Books

Ted Lewin talks about his fifty-plus years as an illustrator from early childhood during WWII, through his years at Pratt Institute where he paid his way working as a professional wrestler.  He talks about his years working in the pulps, and on to clients that include Dell Publishing, Readers Digest, Family Circle and other magazines, and finally embracing the world of children’s books in the 1980’s.

He takes us on his adventures with his wife Betsy to the world’s wild places in search of stories for their books.  Ted’s book MARKET! was named one of the year’s best illustrated books by the New York Times.  His many awards include The John Burroughs Award for science writing, a Caldecott Honor, a silver medal and the prestigious Hamilton King Award from the Society of Illustrators.
