Reasonably Sound

With Mike Rugnetta

For a ten year period, just now reaching its end, a single sound dominated movie trailers: The Braaam. Otherwise known as The Inception Sound, after the movie which popularized it, this sound has it all: compelling sonic properties, an effectiveness deeply rooted in a millennia plus of human culture (from Iron Age Celts to Tom Cruise!), and a complex controversy surrounding its authorship.

This performance is updated from the Reasonably Sound episode, and includes and a look at the sound now deposing The Braaam as most ubiquitous movie trailer sound effect. This one also has a funny name.

Reasonably Sound is an independently produced podcast about the science, theory and culture of all things audio. It’s made by Mike Rugnetta, a multimedia artist, writer and host of various other internet things (Idea Channel, Crash Course and more).
