Between 1873 and 1934, the Belgian-American shipping company Red Star Line brought over two million European migrants from Antwerp to the New World.

An estimated one in four were Jewish—including Irving Berlin and Albert Einstein. All of them shaped American society to what it is today. With the Red Star Line Museum opening this fall in Antwerp, Belgium, we reflect on this important chapter in American history.
