Sam Doyle, a culture bearer of his community (St. Helena’s Island, South Carolina), drew inspiration from his local community, popular culture, and religious sources. Nellie Mae Rowe (Vinings, Georgia) tapped into memories from her life experience and created bold, colorful works from her vivid imagination.
