Savvy Sirens of the French New Wave, 1956 – 1965

French New Wave was the original Indie Cinema where young directors dispensing with the old format of filmmaking, used whatever technical resources were available to rewrite the protocols of 20th century cinema.

National Arts Club member Erik Carlson has culled four rarely seen shorts by the foremost directors of this era from his personal collection. “Each film this evening will feature strong female presences – fairly unusual for this industry in Mid-Century France”. Mr. Carlson will open with a brief slide presentation and overview of this influential period.

Free to the public with RSVP at nationalartsclub.eventbrite.com.
