Segue Reading Series: Xavier Cavazos and Pamela Booker

ON SATURDAY, OCTOBER 19th at 5PM, AUTHORS XAVIER CAVAZOS AND PAMELA BOOKER WILL PRESENT AN HOUR-LONG EVENING OF POETRY AS PART OF THE SEGUE READING SERIES FALL LINE-UP 2024 AT ARTISTS SPACE.

THE POETS
Xavier Cavazos is a grand slam champion of the NuYoRican Poets Cafe. He is the author of three collections: Barbarian at the Gate, Diamond Grove Slave Tree, and The Devil’s Workshop (Editor’s Choice Award from Cleveland State University Poetry Center). Cavazos is a senior poetry editor for Poetry Northwest and directs the Liberal Studies Program at Central Washington University.

Pamela Booker is 2024 NJ State Council on the Arts / Mid Atlantic Arts Prose Fellow for the manuscript Dill’s Mirrors and the Lizzies. An interdisciplinary writer, her publications are featured in various outlets, including Duke University Press. She’s in the Teaching-Faculty in Writing Studies / Theater Arts at Montclair State University.

THE CURATORS
Regie Cabico, a spoken word pioneer and current Executive Director of A Gathering of the Tribes, won the Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam. His TV credits include HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, TEDx and NPR’s Snap Judgment. His first full-length poetry collection A Rabbit in Search of a Rolex was released by Day Eight in 2023.

Drew Pisarra is the author of two short story collections, You’re Pretty Gay (2021) and Publick Spanking (1996); two sonnet collections, Infinity Standing Up (2019) and Periodic Boyfriends (2023); and two radio plays, The Strange Case of Nick M. (2021) and Price in Purgatory (2023).

A Gathering of Tribes – founded in 1991 by blind poet, playwright, and former professor Steve Cannon (1935–2019) – is a non-profit arts organization based in New York City that provides a platform for diverse, traditionally underrepresented artists and writers. amplifying the emerging and established revolutionary voices of our time.

The Segue Foundation is an internationally-renowned arts organization based in New York City with a history of commitment to innovative literature, film, and dance. Segue sponsors the experimental Segue Reading Series, a legendary series that has run continuously in New York City for over 40 years.

The Segue Reading Series for Fall 2024 runs every Saturday from Oct. 5 to Nov. 23 at Artists Space (11 Cortlandt Alley, New York, NY, 10013). Tickets are $5 at the door.
