Tama Janowitz’s days in the literary Brat Pack of the 1980s, the wild ride chronicled in her genre-defining collection Slaves of New York, are long gone–much like her contemporaries in that storied, tumultuous cohort, names like Bret Easton Ellis and Jay McInerney, she’s moved on and moved out. In Scream: A Memoir of Glamour and Dysfunction, she chronicles the quirky literary world of young downtown New York in the go-go 1980s and her subsequent journey from the center of the action to her life today in a tiny upstate town.
Tama will be back in her old stomping grounds for the launch of this, her first memoir, to talk with Kat Kinsman (author of the upcoming book Hi Anxiety and the senior food and drinks editor at Time Inc.’s Extra Crispy) about how she, and the city, have changed since their younger, wilder days.
