The Science and Colours of Human Expression
The Making and Knowing Project (a Research Cluster within the Center for Science and Society) has partnered with the Sato Sakura Gallery to present a compelling look into the intersection of human expression in art and our understanding of the natural world.
As a gallery specializing in Japanese Nihonga–a painting method largely defined by its use of paint derived from natural minerals–the Sato Sakura Gallery believes that by deepening our knowledge of the way in which artists both create and use natural materials to craft beautiful works, we can forever transform our appreciation and understanding of art.
Along with presentations by both Sato Sakura and the Making and Knowing Project, a hands-on demonstration will also provide rich insight into the physical and aesthetic properties of mineral color pigments.
