Virtual Book Talk: Rooted in the Hood

Join us on YouTube Live for a free virtual talk with Anna Angelidakis, author of Rooted in the Hood: An Intimate Portrait of New York City’s Community Gardens, in conversation with Jason Eisner, the Tenement Museum’s Education Manager for Exhibitions & Coordination and president of the Museum’s Gardening Club.

They will discuss Anna’s new book—a photo essay celebrating the community gardens of New York City and the people who create, cultivate, and enjoy them. This is a book about ordinary New Yorkers, dreamers, and visionaries who reclaimed the vacant lots of the ’60s and ’70s by planting trees and vegetables and slowly creating small havens for the community.

Together, Jason and Anna will discuss the importance of green spaces in New York City. They’ll share photographs from the book and discuss the urgent need to protect these unique sanctuaries from development.
