Virtual Tour with 1947 Babe Ruth Day Exclusive

New York Sports Tours’ celebrated sports history tour experience is back in season, in virtual form with a New York Yankees exclusive.

Registration for the live event on the evening of June 25 is now open here, with a limited number of spaces available.  The one-hour event, via video conference, will feature stories, videos, and original research previously only presented during tour outings. The tour will be followed by a question-and-answer session with an exclusive guest and story from New York Yankees history.

In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Babe Ruth’s first Yankees season, the virtual tour will include insider stories about the baseball legend, and examine how he was honored on Babe Ruth Day in 1947 (pictured above).

As a teenaged Bronx baseball standout, the tour’s special guest, Larry Cutler, was selected to introduce a noticeably ill Ruth at the Yankee Stadium event. Cutler’s short speech — delivered a year before Ruth died of cancer at age 53 — remains mysterious to some, but was deemed essential in securing Ruth’s participation in the ceremony.

Cutler’s involvement in the 1947 event holds a new significance in the grand scheme of Ruth’s legacy, especially for those who seek to understand Ruth and the Yankees on a deeper level. New York Sports Tours recently discovered a film reel of the Cutler and Ruth speeches, and will debut the footage during the virtual experience. For the first time, Cutler will see his 1947 speech and publicly address his Yankees story.
