Gallery founder Spencer Throckmorton says this show “will offer a comprehensive view of photographic achievement from 1924 to the present by women who were among the earliest to take social risks in a still-traditional society.  The post-revolutionary Mexican art photographers laid the groundwork for women to expand some years later in all fields and in all directions, reveling the scope of humanitarian richness that Mexico offers.

The nine artists featured at Throckmorton include Tina Modotti, Graciela Iturbide, Flor Garduno, Lola Alvarez Bravo, Kati Horna, Mariana Yampolsky, Colette Urbajtel, Cristina Kahlo and Lourdes Almeidia – half still working and half best known for photographs they created decades ago.
