Women’s Pay Equity Day: Getting Even

On Tuesday, April 12, The New School’s Center for New York City Affairs will host a public event, Women’s Pay Equity Day, to explore this gap between men’s and women’s wages. This day was established in 1996 by the National Committee on Pay Equity to symbolize how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year.

As part of the panel discussion for the event, key actors, including economists, government representatives, activists, and corporate leaders to be announced will come together to share their experiences.  Special focus will be on questions of: (1) what is the nature of the pay gap and why does it exist, (2) who is affected the most, and (3) what policy initiatives can be taken to close the gap?
