Yo! It’s Yiddish – For Families

Grab your mishpacha and join us for this low-pressure, high-energy introduction to the language of your bubbe and zaide! Using songs and stories, kids will learn a smidge of Yiddish, the Hebrew-German language spoken by the 19th-century Lower East Siders who founded Eldridge Street. Renowned teacher Paula Teitelbaum, who’s been speaking Yiddish since her childhood in Poland, has taught the language everywhere from the 92nd Street Y and Workmen’s Circle to the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. Now, she’s bringing der klang of Yiddish back to Eldridge Street with a lesson that focuses on words related to the winter season. Budding linguists will also channel their inner artist to make a keepsake Yiddish-English glossary book. You’d be meshuga to miss it!
