Sylvia Jukes Morris, the biographer of Edith Kermit Roosevelt, comes to Roosevelt House on Tuesday, July 22, to discuss The Price of Fame: The Honorable Clare Boothe Luce, the long-awaited second and concluding volume of her biography of one of the most famous and influential women of the 20th Century. Luce was a trailblazer as a playwright, diplomat, Congresswoman and force in the Republican Party from the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt to the presidency of Ronald Reagan – who when asked if being a woman had been a career disadvantage replied, “I couldn’t possibly tell you. I have never been a man.” Ms. Morris will be interviewed by journalist James Atlas, biographer of Saul Bellow and the founder of the Penguin Lives series.
