Join the Museum of the City of New York for this opening weekend event celebrating New York at Its Core, the museum’s landmark, permanent exhibition presenting more than 400 objects and state-of-the-art interactives which together capture the city’s four-century history of growth and transformation. This round-the-clock weekend celebration takes place over 32 hours of nonstop fun and surprises, and features live musical and spoken word performances, films, dance, and interactive experiences for the entire family. Advance registration required.
Free general admission tickets are timed, and include access to all exhibitions plus Voices of the City musical performances, family activities, and more.
Special performance and event tickets are available for featured entertainment and some require an additional fee. Events include:
- Storytelling slam with The Moth, an open-mic competition open to anyone with a 5-minute story to share about NYC ($8 for Museum members | $10 for non-members)
- Silent disco dance party, featuring three different channels of music: classic partner dance hits; ‘70s, ‘80s & ‘90s hits (disco, pop, and hip hop); or contemporary dance music ($15 for Museum members | $20 for non-members)
- Overnight films Saturday Night Fever, After Hours, and King Kong ($8 for Museum members | $10 for non-members)
- Morning yoga class ($12 for Museum members | $15 for non-members)
- Gospel Morning concert
- NYC Trivia Hour
- Salsa afternoon with Los Ciegos del Barrio
- Walt Whitman in New York, featuring poetry and prose about the city performed by singers, speakers, a Whitman scholar, and a Whitman “personator”
- Family dance lessons focusing on Broadway moves and salsa steps and more!
