Corporate Glory and Heroic Capitalism: The Architecture of Cross & Cross

You may not recognize the names John and Eliot Cross, but you’ll know their work when you see it. The Cross brothers reshaped New York City’s skyline in the early 1900s. Their iconic buildings testify to the era’s commercial success: the RCA Victor Building (1931), Chickering Hall (1924), and Tiffany’s flagship store on 57th Street (1940). Join architect Peter Pennoyer and architectural historian Anne Walker, authors of New York Transformed (The Monacelli Press, 2014), for a look at these largely forgotten master architects. We’ll explore Cross & Cross’s influences and shrewd business dealings, and examine photos and blueprints.
